In a new report, the Brookings Institution noted that Pittsburgh's innovation economy is strong and growing thanks to the region's universities, especially Carnegie Mellon and the University of Pittsburgh.
The report, "Capturing the Next Economy: Pittsburgh's Rise as a Global Innovation City," examines Pittsburgh's opportunity to become a top global destination for technology-based economic activities. The study notes that world-class research institutions such as Carnegie Mellon are essential to Pittsburgh's economic success.
The report was unveiled on Sept. 13 at the Energy Innovation Center in Pittsburgh. Carnegie Mellon Interim President Farnam Jahanian participated in a panel discussion regarding economic development at the event. Other panelists included Carnegie Mellon alumna and elizer Product Development Manager Kelly Collier, University of Pittsburgh Chancellor Patrick Gallagher, Brookings Institution Centennial Scholar Bruce Katz and UPMC President and CEO Jeffrey Romoff.
