Cousin joined the CMU faculty in 2011. The move to arts education followed an award-winning international career that included collaborations in dance, theater, music, film, photography, television and literature.

Cousin recently traveled to Monticello High School in Charlottesville, Virginia, to work with the students of the 2019 Excellence in Theatre Education Award winner, Madeline Michel. While there with fellow drama faculty member Catherine Moore, Cousin taught a master class with Michel's high school students and shared advice with them about future endeavors — within the arts and as theater/arts enthusiasts. Cousin also talks about his personal experience in discovering the arts as a creative outlet.
"I'm quite overwhelmed with gratitude and memories," Cousin said upon hearing he had been chosen as the award recipient. "I've never received anything like his before and was not prepared for the flood of memories that have come."
